Pine Valley advances, North Collins falls in boys soccer; Section 6 playoff recap

Saturday in boys soccer Section 6 Class D playoffs, Pine Valley defeated Ellicottville, 2-1, with two goals by Dawson Chase. Brock Ricketts and Dana Jenkins got assists in the win.

Chase had his first goal of the game five minutes in to put Pine Valley up by one.

Ellicottville’s Noah Stuve tied it up at 1-all in the 38th minute.

Chase, like his brother Dylan who graduated last year, got the game-winning goal against Ellicottville in the playoffs to spur his team to the championship game.

“He’s a kid that talent wise is just off the charts,” Pine Valley coach David Pihlblad said. “This year was a hit or miss and he definitely stepped up this year.”

Pine Valley’s goaltender Makiah Snyder had six saves to secure the win.

On the other side of the Class D bracket, North Collins, the two seed, lost against No. 3 Lafayette, 6-1.

Stats for the game were unavailable.

Lafayette will play Pine Valley at a time later to be announced for the Class D title.

“We saw them play,” Pihlblad said. “I’ve seen them play twice. They willb definitely be the best team we’ve played all year. The kids know what we are up against. We are exciting.”

For the rest of Section 6 boys soccer, only one team is still fighting for a title and that is No. 2 Westfield-Brocton. The team will play on Monday at Pioneer High School against No. 3 Maple Grove.
