Lanksi breaks Fredonia school record in 55 hurdles

En route to qualifying for Sectionals, Fredonia’s Lydia Lanksi set a new school record in the 55 hurdles with a time 8.76 seconds to take first place for Class C in the Section 6 Team Championship indoor track and field meet, Saturday.

Lanksi was joined with solid performances by teammates Jack Carlson, Diego Rey and Claire Stokes.

Carlson took fifth place in Class C running the 3,200 meter race at a time of 10:34.01, qualifying him for Sectionals. Rey took first place in the 1000 meter for Class C with a time of 2:40.74, qualifying him for Sectionals. Stokes delivered a personal best in the high jump (5-feet-1 inch) to place second in Class C.

“The team had a great competition. We had many personal bests which is great to see as we get ready for the upcoming State qualifier meet in two weeks,” Fredonia coach Tom Stokes said. “Lydia Lanski, Claire Stokes and Jack Carlson showed great efforts which lead to their outstanding performances.”

Hessen Baghat also qualified for states and jumped for a personal best of 10-feet-6 inches in the pole vault.
