Chautauqua Lake tennis edges Southwestern 3-2

MAYVILLE — In a closely contested girls tennis match, Chautauqua Lake defeated Southwestern, 3-2.
The deciding match of the evening came down to a three-set thriller at third singles between Elizabeth Marshaus of Chautauqua Lake and Isabelle Meyers of Southwestern. Marshaus took the first set, 6-4, while Myers came back the second set knocking off Marshaus with the same score, 6-4. In a back and forth battle in the third set, Marshaus pulled the victory out 7-5, giving her team the overall win. Second doubles was also a great match throughout. The team of Morgan Wilson and Hailey DeLong of Southwestern pulled it out in three sets, with a tiebreaker involved in the second set. Set scores were 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
In first singles, Emily Bauer of Chautauqua Lake downed Hiba Munir in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. At second singles Elizabeth Kane of Southwestern defeated Logan Walzcak, 6-0, 6-2. The Chautauqua Lake first doubles team of Kira Erikson and Elise Riedesel upped their record to 5-0 for the season. They, too, defeated their opponents, Olivia Allen and Christine Demi in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
Chautauqua Lake will be hosting Salamanca on Thursday in their Homecoming match.
