Lady Wolverines top Salamanca, advance to Winter Classic final

WESTFIELD — The Westfield/Brocton Lady Wolverines will be playing for their home tournament title tonight. The Lady Wolverines made sure of that with a 37-24 victory over Salamanca in the nightcap of the Westfield Winter Classic girls basketball tournament at Westfield Academy.

“Our girls played hard. We could not afford to lose this game,” said Westfield/Brocton Dave Mathews.

Mary Conklin led Westfield/Brocton (2-3) with nine points, while Haleigh Dellow had seven points and Juli Smith had five points. McKenzie Wolfe also had six rebounds for the Lady Wolverines. Nine girls scored for the Lady Wolverines in the win. Salamanca’s Jaeden Hubbard had 15 rebounds, while Kylee Dowdy added 10 rebounds.

“I think we’ll just keep getting even better. I really do,” said Mathews.

Westfield/Brocton will play Randolph tonight for the Winter Classic title at around 7 p.m., after the third place game between Salamanca and Clymer, who lost to Randolph on Friday.
