11th annual alumni golf tourney is Aug. 6

The 11th annual Dunkirk High School/Cardinal Mindszenty High School/Fredonia High School Alumni Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 6 at Shorewood Country Club.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dunkirk-Fredonia Little League and girls softball program as well as “Summer Camp Better Than Others.”

Dunkirk Mayor Willie Rosas and Jack Shubert, Shorewood CC pro emeritus, will be the honorary starters.

Registration will be held in the “Grove” next to the pro shop; a group photo will follow at 9:15 a.m.; and the shotgun start for the scramble format event will be at 9:30 a.m. In addition, a $500 hole-in-one contest will be held, sponsored by Mary Asher in memory of Tom Asher.

The cost is $80, which includes greens fees, cart, coffee and donuts, a dinner buffet and dessert. Free hot dogs on the course — on No. 6, will be provided by Bob Bradigan. The dinner will follow at 4 p.m., preceded by a cash bar at 2:30 p.m. A non-golfer dinner is $27 per person.

The tournament will be broadcast on WDOE by Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame and New York State Radio Hall of Fame inductee Dan Palmer. Trophy presentations, door prizes and a silent auction will follow dinner.
