Westfield boys fall at Ellicottville
Swanson scores 16 in North’s final game
ELLICOTTVILLE — Leif Jimerson poured in 33 points and added five steals to lead No. 2 Ellicottville (14-2) to a 66-52 win over No. 6 Westfield (7-9) in Section VI Class C2 semifinal action.
That performance earns the Eagles a finals date on the road against No. 1 Randolph this Friday.
“We were able to build an 18-point lead going into the half,” Ellicottville coach Dave McCann said. “Leif and Logan (Grinols) were excellent tonight on the offensive end. They were attacking the basket and making plays in transition.”
The loss marks the end of a 34-year coaching career for Westfield’s Bob North, who is retiring at the end of the year.
Grinols would chip in 15 points and five assists; Clayton Rowland 8 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists; and Wyatt Chudy added 10 points and four rebounds in the win.
Darien Swanson had his fifth triple-double of the season with 16 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds while Brayden Kneer had 18 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots for Westfield.
“Swanson hit some big shots and Kneer was playing very well inside for them, they are solid players,” McCann said. “In the fourth quarter we were able to slow down the pace and play the clock. We played a very sound game as a team tonight.”
Ellicottville took a pair of games from Randolph this season, winning the second 50-47 on Feb. 24.
