WESTFIELD — NorthLake Family Recreation Center Inc. in Westfield recognized the tenth anniversary of the homegoing of Army Sgt. Kevin W. White with their annual Kevin White Memorial soccer match, rededication of Sgt. Kevin W. White Memorial Field, and the annual Kevin White Memorial Alumni Soccer game on September 25.

The ceremony included a reading of Kevin’s bio, a prayer of dedication by retired pastor and NorthLake Founders Board member Thayne Bodenmiller II, and featured a mounted Color Guard of Carrie McCausland and Ellie Bates from Portland. Both ladies are granddaughters of veterans and Carrie’s brother served multiple deployments in Iraq.

They rode Gust, a black Morgan, and Riesling, a bay retired thoroughbred racehorse. Morgans were the US Cavalry mounts since before the Civil War. American flags were loaned by W.P. Jackway Post 6764 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and John W. Rogers Post 327 of the American Legion.

A beautiful row of 10 American flags were also donated by Nate and Alyssa Myers.

The match following the ceremony and our National Anthem featured Westfield Wolverines boys soccer team and the Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds, with coaches and players greeting Paul and Pattie White, Sgt. White’s parents, prior to the match.

Sgt. Kevin W. White was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 2, 2011.
