Charles Mancino, a Fredonia native who now lives in metro-Detroit, ran a 2:48:29 in the 2022 Boston Marathon on Monday.
“I didn’t do as well as I had hoped,” said Mancino, “But it was my second-best marathon ever and my second sub-2:50 marathon in a little over five months.”
Mancino’s time was good enough for 1,192nd place overall, 1,132nd for males, and 916th in his division of 18-39-year-old males.
“It is a really tough course. I had trained on hills since my last race but my quads and hamstrings were still sore afterwards,” he said. “But my splits were solid, and that’s something you want on a course like Boston.”
This was Mancino’s second Boston Marathon, but his first live one.
“I did the virtual race in 2020 since it was canceled due to COVID,” he said, “but the crowd support made it worth the wait.”
Mancino has the Chicago and New York City Marathons planned for the fall.
