Huge first inning propels Randolph

RANDOLPH — Kyra Pence went 4 for 4 with five RBIs and three runs scored as Randolph beat Brocton 18-1 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 East softball Tuesday.
The top four batters in the Cardinals (3-3, 2-0) lineup batted three times apiece during a 16-run first inning.
Pence tripled and scored on a Sadie Steward single to open the game then cleared the left-field fence with her first career home run, a grand slam to plate Allie Conley, Isabella Syracuse and Juliana Syracuse later in the inning. Pence blooped a single into shallow right field to drive in Randolph’s 14th run. Sadie Steward followed with a two-run single to cap the first-inning outburst.
In the third inning, needing a double to complete the cycle, Pence walked. She then singled and scored in the fourth.
Kendall Steward threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and one walk in the circle.
Angeline Rexford singled to break up the no-hitter in the top of the fourth inning. Lorin Rizzo hit an RBI groundout to spoil the shutout. Haleigh Furman singled later in the inning for the Bulldogs (0-4, 0-2).
CAMPBELL PICKS UP WINNING HIT
ST. BONAVENTURE — Olean scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Fredonia 2-1 in Division 1 West action at St. Bonaventure University’s Joyce Field.
JoJo Gibbons led off the seventh with a double before an intentional walk. After a pair of strikeouts, No. 7 hitter Amy Campbell hit a ball into the right-center field gap to plate the winning run.
“They had traffic on the bases,” Fredonia head coach Jesse Beers said. “We were flirting with disaster most of the game.”
Kiley Anastasia earned the win in the circle, striking out nine and walking four in a four-hitter for the Huskies (5-3, 4-0).
“Going in we knew it would be a good game,” Beers said. “We knew they had some players and they have a quality pitcher in Anastasia.”
Fredonia scored its lone run in the top of the first inning. Lila Cameron led off with a triple to center field and scored on an RBI single off the third baseman’s glove by Lucas. After a walk, Jaelyn Davis hit a ball into the left-center field gap, but Olean’s outfielder made the catch and doubled a runner off second base.
“We hit a few other balls hard,” Beers said. “We just couldn’t come up with the big hit when we got girls into scoring position.”
Olean tied the game in the fifth inning. Gibbons’ blooper to left field went for a double before Makenna Pancio hit an RBI double.
“This might be the best thing for us. We kind of had a monkey on our back with people expecting us to win,” Beers said. “Now that we’ve lost a game, hopefully that will take the pressure off and our girls can play a little more relaxed.”
MARAUDERS RALLY TO WIN
DUNKIRK — Dunkirk rattled off a seven-run sixth inning to beat Jamestown 11-4 in Division 1 West action.
Aaliyah Morales highlighted the Dunkirk (2-3, 2-2) offense with a two-run triple and she later scored. Dunkirk cather Alyssa Salerno played a good defensive game and had two hits, Paige Mullen had one hit, and Emma Yacklon added another hit and scored twice.
Jamaladie Pacheco was in the circle for the Marauders, giving up six hits, three walks and striking out three in the win.
Kylie O’Brien had a double and triple for Jamestown (1-3, 1-2) with two RBIs and Aubrey Reynolds hit a double and a single. Lindsey Spitz was the losing pitcher for the Red Raiders.
BEARS PILE ON IN EIGHTH
FREWSBURG — An eight-run top of the eighth inning sent Frewsburg past Maple Grove 20-12 in Division 2 West action.
The Red Dragons’ Sam Snow hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings.
Braelyn Stelmack led the Bears (3-3, 1-2) with four hits while Peyton Yost, Elise Sposato and Reagan Chitester added two hits apiece.
Erin Mansfield had four hits while Tessa Reed and Lydia Darr had two hits apiece for Maple Grove (2-3, 2-3).
T’BIRDS BLANK COUGARS
MAYVLLE — Olivia Herrington threw a five-inning, one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and two walks as Chautauqua Lake beat Cassadaga Valley 14-0 in Division 2 West action.
Mallory Morrison picked up three singles and Cayzlee Johnson had two singles for the Thunderbirds (4-0, 4-0). Lucy Gates added a triple and four runs scored; Herrington doubled; and Tatem Zemcik and Emma Lindsey each had two RBIs.
Payton Allessi singled down the third-base line for the Cougars (0-3, 0-3).
WOLVERINES ADD ON LATE
WESTFIELD — A five-run sixth inning gave Westfield some breathing room en route to an 8-3 Division 2 West victory over Clymer/Sherman.
Haleigh Dellow threw a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts while also going 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for the Wolverines (8-0, 5-0).
Eva Gnadzinski added two hits, including a double, while Brynn Ernewein singled twice and drove in two runs in the victory.
Mikala Einink doubled and scored a run while Kaitlyn Lindsey had a single and two RBIs for the Wolves (0-4, 0-4).
KOTA POWERS GOWANDA
GOWANDA — Addison Kota threw a four-hitter with two walks and 14 strikeouts as Gowanda beat Forestville 12-3 in Division 1 East action.
Kota helped herself with four hits, including a double, an RBI, two stolen bases and three runs scored. Gao:wisa:s Stevens had two hits, including a triple, two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run scored; Cameron Nagel had two hits, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored; Meredith Valone had two hits, a stolen base and a run scored; and Hailey Fort hit a home run and drove in two runs for the Panthers (4-4, 2-1).
KLAHN LEADS WARRIORS
SALAMANCA — Kierstyn Klahn went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored as Salamanca beat Cattaraugus-Little Valley 17-16 in Division 2 East.
Emma Brown had two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored while Jaelynne Brown went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two RBIs for the Warriors (5-2, 4-2).
