Matt Cash was money for the Fredonia Hillbillies (10-3-1, 9-2) baseball team on Thursday.
Cash was responsible for seven of the Hillbillies’ runs, scoring twice and collecting five RBIs, including two in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Fredonia walked off against Allegany-Limestone 12-11 in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball game.
Cash also earned the win on the mound, stepping in for 3 1/3 innings of work with one earned run and two strikeouts.
“Matt stepped up for us in a number of ways today,” said Fredonia head coach Tim Cowan. “His first action on the mound (and) he came into a difficult situation and got us settled.”
Fredonia and Allegany-Limestone exchanged big innings. The Hillbillies scored four runs in the first inning, highlighted by RBIs from Trevor Persch, Nate Sercu and Andrew Cowan. Cowan added another RBI, scoring Persch a few innings later.

Allegany-Limestone’s big inning was the top of the fourth when it scored seven runs, aided by five walks, a hit by pitch and two errors. Nolan Donovan capitalized with a three-run triple and Andrew Giardini piled on with a two-run single to go up 9-5.
Fredonia had a quick response as Cash ripped a bases-loaded triple and then scored when the Gators made an error on the cut off throw to make it 9-9.
The teams exchanged runs again, with Fredonia scoring off a Owen Rush triple and a wild pitch.
Allegany-Limestone took the lead again in the top of the seventh, but it would not be enough runs to escape Cash and the Hillbillies. Cash once again stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a walk-off single that scored Simon Davis and Rush for the win.
