Fred qualifies for final

ITHACA — Four Chautauqua County swimmers are still alive in individual events and Frewsburg/Southwestern had a pair of relays qualify for today’s finals at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Boys Swimming & Diving Championships at Ithaca College on Friday.
Dunkirk/Fredonia/Forestville senior Adam Fred qualified for today’s finals in the 100-yard backstroke with the 27th-best time of 54.37 seconds. The top qualifier Friday was Section XI Kings Park junior Martin Perecinsky in 48.96 seconds.
Jamestown/Falconer sophomore Conner Dean qualified for the finals in two events. Dean advanced to the finals in the 500-yard freestyle with the 16th-best time of 4:45.69 on Friday. Section I Huntington-Harborfields-Whitman senior Pierre Leroy had the top time with a 4:35.72. In the 200-yard freestyle, Dean qualified 18th with a time of 1:44.90. Section XI Kings Park junior Martin Perecinsky had the fastest time Friday with a 1:39.76.
Frewsburg/Southwestern senior Gannon Moore qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 100-yard freestyle with the 20th-best time of 47.48 seconds. Trojan Bears freshman Miles Moore missed the finals with a time of 49.21 seconds. The top time in the 100-yard freestyle was also Sackett, who finished in 44.88 seconds.
Miles Moore qualified for Saturday’s finals in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.92 seconds, .09 seconds faster than his seed time. Moore had the 28th-best time Friday. Section IV Waverly senior Jerrel Sackett had the top time at 20.79 seconds.
Frewsburg/Southwestern’s 200-yard freestyle relay team of Miles Moore, senior Brady Lindstrom, freshman Grady Moore and Gannon Moore qualified for the championship finals with a time of 1:27.73 on Friday. Chaminade qualified with the best time Friday, finishing in 1:25.09.
The same Frewsburg/Southwestern quartet qualified for the finals in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.80. Section I Greeley had the top qualifying time, finishing in 3:07.65.
Gannon Moore just missed the top-30 cutoff to swim in Saturday’s finals in the 200-yard freestyle. Moore finished in 1:46.76, which was .22 seconds slower than his seeding time. The 30th-best time Friday was 1:46.29.
Grady Moore missed the finals cutoff in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.57 seconds. The final qualifying time for Saturday’s finals was 52.54 seconds.
Frewsburg/Southwestern senior Logan Hren just missed the top-30 cutoff for the finals in the 500-yard freestyle. Hren finished 31st in 4:53.97, while the 30th-best time was 4:53.29.
Jamestown/Falconer junior Aidan McCleery swam the 40th-best time in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 48.91 seconds, .3 seconds slower than his seeding time.
Frewsburg/Southwestern junior Alexander Pitts missed the semifinals in the 1-meter diving competition. Through five dives, Pitts totaled 154.35 points. Tottenville junior Nicholas Graham was the top diving qualifier after prelims with 258 points.
Frewsburg/Southwestern’s 200-yard medley relay team just missed the top-30 cutoff to swim in Saturday’s finals. Eighth-grader Landon Frederes, senior Brady Lindstrom, Grady Moore and Hren finished in 1:41.64, which was nearly 3 seconds slower than their seed time. Cicero-North Syracuse was the final qualifying team in the top 30 with a time of 1:41.58.
Qualifiers who finished Nos. 1-10 on Friday will swim in today’s championship finals. Qualifiers who swam times Nos. 11-20 will swim in the B finals today and qualifiers who swam times Nos. 21-30 will swim in C finals.
