Orcutt dominates in Dunkirk’s 7-2 victory

DUNKIRK — Frank Jagoda didn’t mince words.

“Greg Orcutt was lights-out,” the Dunkirk coach said. “He just dominated from the get-go in a pitchers’ duel with a very good pitcher.”

How good was Orcutt?

Well, he had a no-hitter through 5 1/3 innings, struck out 13 and issued three walks to send the Marauders to a 7-2 nonleague victory over City Honors on Friday.

After giving up two runs in the sixth, Brady Corbett came on in relief and struck out three and walked one to close out the victory.

Dunkirk, which raised its record to 4-2, was led offensively by Corbett (double, 2 RBIs) and Dylan Bankoski (double, one RBI) with two hits apiece. Orcutt, Donny Jackson and Gabriel Valentine each drove in a run.

Xavier Mann took the loss for City Honors, allowing three hits, five runs (three earned), striking out five and walking six. Dean Tripp worked one inning in relief. Tripp and Nathaniel Gilbert had a single apiece for City Honors.

BEARS STYMIE JAMESTOWN

JAMESTOWN — Three Frewsburg pitchers held Jamestown to give hits in the Bears’ 4-1 nonleague victory over the Red Raiders on Friday at the Martin Road Athletic Complex.

Aidan Gruber allowed four hits in 3 2/3 innings with two strikeouts; Maddox Sheesley struck out one and allowed one hit in 2 1/3 innings, and Payton Dustin threw the final no-hit inning for Frewsburg (6-2, 3-0 CCAA D2).

The Bears went up 1-0 in the first inning when Chase Haglund singled, Mason Eckman was hit by a pitch and Dustin hit an RBI single to right field.

Frewsburg added a run in the third when Dustin reached on an error to lead off the inning, stole second with one out and stole third with two outs before scoring when the throw went into left field.

Mikey Patric singled with one out and scored on Dominic Weber’s RBI triple in the bottom of the third.

‘The Bears put the game away with two runs in the fifth. Dustin reached on a one-out infield single and scored on Sheesley’s single to right field when it got by the fielder for an error. Sheesley eventually scored on Vincent Sanfilippo’s two-out RBI single.

Brandon Lobb threw six innings, allowing six hits and four runs (two earned) while walking four and striking out five for Jamestown (3-2, 3-1 CCAA D1).

Patrick finished with two hits for Jamestown, while Dustin and Sanfilippo each had two hits for Frewsburg.

HENDRIX POWERS SOUTHWESTERN

PANAMA — Dustin Hendrix went 3 for 4 with a two-run home run, RBI double and RBI single as Southwestern beat nonleague Clymer/Sherman/Panama 10-1.

Hendrix hit an RBI single in the first inning to score Lucas Gilbert; an RBI double in the fifth inning to score Judd Harris; and then capped a 10-pitch at-bat with a two-run home run to left field plating Harris during a five-run seventh inning for the Trojans (3-2, 2-2 CCAA D1).

Harris threw 4 1/3 innings of five-hit, one-run ball with five strikeouts and no walks for Southwestern. Gilbert threw the final 2ª no-hit innings with four strikeouts.

Jameson Walsh had two hits, including a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored; Harris had two hits and three runs scored; and Chase Kartesz also drove in a run for the Trojans.

Sturges had two hits, including a double, and scored Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s lone run.

Tate Catanese, Bryce Hinsdale and Gabe Roth combined to strike out 14 on the mound for the Wolfpack (4-1, 3-0 CCAA D2).

MAPLE GROVE EDGES RANDOLPH

BEMUS POINT — Jake Reinart pitched four scoreless innings as Maple Grove held off Randolph 9-6 in nonleague play.

The Red Dragons (4-3, 1-3) were led by Sean Verbosky with a three-run double in the first inning and Nash Luther hit an RBI single and scored in the fifth inning. Adam Brisky finished the game on the mound with two scoreless innings in relief.

Randolph (0-7, 0-4) was led by David Malone with a single and an RBI.

THURSDAY

T’BIRDS ROLL RED DRAGONS

BEMUS POINT — Eliot Reyda and Nate Henry were efficient on the mound to lead Chautauqua Lake past Maple Grove 8-2 in Division 2 action Thursday.

Reyda gave up just one hit and struck out two batters in the first two innings. Then, Henry pitched the final five innings, giving up three hits and striking out four.

Colin McPherson was the lone Maple Grove player to get a good piece of Reyda, smashing a towering home run in the first inning.

Chautauqua Lake was led by Henry going 3 for 4 with an RBI double, Devin Hewes with a two-run single, Nolan Olson with an RBI single and Lawson Ormsby with two singles, an RBI and a run scored.

JOHNSON HURLS GEM

WESTFIELD — Hunter Johnson threw a complete-game two-hitter with six strikeouts as Cassadaga Valley beat Westfield 3-2 in Division 2 play Thursday.

Owen Myers and Braden LeBaron both had multiple hits as the Cougars (1-4, 1-3) totaled eight in the game.

Danny Bratton threw five innings and struck out nine while allowing six hits and three runs for the Wolverines (1-2, 0-2). Bratton also hit a home run while Tristan Phillips added the other Westfield hit.
