Falconer completes two-day sweep of Dunkirk

DUNKIRK — Falconer finished off a two-day sweep of Dunkirk in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 West softball Wednesday with an 8-6 victory.

Wednesday’s victory came on the heels of a 9-0 shutout Tuesday in Falconer.

Emily Rhinehart went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored as the Golden Falcons (7-4, 6-2) took a 8-1 lead Wednesday en route to an 8-6 victory.

Kayla Lynn added two hits, including a triple, and two runs scored; Augustine Krenzer tripled and drove in two runs; and Emily Zaranek had a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Rhinehart threw the first four innings of one-hit ball, striking out five and walking six. Hannah Melquist threw the final three innings and struck out three.

For Dunkirk (3-7, 2-7), Courtney Zatorski, Emily Pacheco and Aaliyah Morales all had doubles.

Angelina Piede threw 5 1/3 innings and struck out one.

On Tuesday, Lynn had three hits, including a triple, drove in a run and scored twice. Angelina Fiasco had three hits and two runs scored; Krenzer had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored; Melquist doubled, drove in a run and scored a run; and Zaranek had two hits.

Melquist threw a complete-game three-hitter with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Piede doubled while Pacheco and Emma Ahlstrom had the other hits for the Marauders.

Kassidy Donisi struck out four in a complete game in the circle.

NORTH COLLINS SWEEPS DH

NORTH COLLINS — North Collins pounded out 28 hits in a Division 2 East doubleheader sweep of Franklinville.

In Game 1, the Eagles (8-7, 7-2) scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to send the shortened game into extra innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Cate Ayers led off with a single, went to second on Payge Murray’s sacrifice bunt, advanced to third on a walk to Grace Montaldi and scored on Novalee Schlenker’s game-winning RBI single.

Hailey Jasinski doubled, was hit by a pitch, had a sacrifice fly and drove in two runs; Schlenker was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored; and Ayers was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored for North Collins, which collected 11 hits.

Sophia Vanstrom and Ayers combined on a seven-hitter with four strikeouts in the circle.

In Game 2, North Collins scored three runs in the first inning and five in the second to take an 8-2 lead en route to a 10-3 victory.

In the first, Schlenker led off with a double and Jaylee Jimerson doubled, but Schlenker was thrown out at the plate. Jasinski followed with a two-run home run. Milani Maciejewski then doubled and scored on a Lily Montaldi RBI single.

In the second, Murray singled and Grace Montaldi grounded out before Schlenker hit an RBI single and stole second. Jimerson then hit an RBI single and Vanstrom had an RBI double before Jasinski’s second two-run home run of the game.

Jasinski finished 3 for 3, adding an RBI single later in the game. Schlenker went 3 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs; Jimerson was 3 for 4 with two runs scored; Lily Montaldi was 2 for 3 with an RBI; and Grace Montaldi was 2 for 3 as the Eagles totaled 17 hits.

Vanstrom threw a complete-game eight-hitter with six strikeouts.

The Panthers fell to 1-14 overall and 1-8 in the league.

WAGNER HAS WINNING HIT

FREDONIA — Kelsey Wagner’s third double of the game drove in the winning run as Clymer/Sherman beat Maple Grove 5-4 in eight innings of Division 2 West play at SUNY Fredonia.

Wagner finished 4 for 5 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored for the Wolves (8-3, 6-3). Janelle Burchanowski was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored; Lily Martin doubled and drove in a run; Olivia Maleski had three hits and a run scored; and Elli Bodamer had two hits.

Bodamer allowed six hits and walked two while striking out eight in the circle for Clymer/Sherman.

Erin Mansfield had two hits and two runs scored while Megan McGee doubled for the Red Dragons (4-7, 4-6).

Lydia Darr struck out seven in the circle for Maple Grove.

HERRINGTON DOMINATES AGAIN

MAYVILLE — Olivia Herrington threw a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts on Senior Night as Chautauqua Lake shut out Panama 6-0 in Division 2 West play.

Herrington, Breanna Keefe, Mallory Morrison and Jenna Waters were honored as seniors for the Thunderbirds (8-2, 8-1).

Herrington had three hits, including two doubles, and scored three runs. Waters and Morrison each added a single.

Kaitlyn Horton’s seventh-inning single was the lone hit for the Panthers (6-7, 5-6).

FORESTVILLE SENIORS SHINE

FORESTVILLE — The Forestville seniors came up in a big way as the Hornets topped Brocton 9-2 in Division 1 East play.

Leading the Hornets (7-6, 4-5) were seniors Callie Grupa going 3 for 3 with three RBIs; Lauryn Pierce with two hits and three RBIs; and Madison Sliwinski with two RBIs. Both Jade Work and Carilene Sliwa went 3 for 3 for Forestville and Megan Gruber picked up the win in the circle with eight strikeouts.

Brocton (2-10, 1-8) was led by Grace Lundin with an RBI single. Hannah Utegg, Hailey Carlson and Haleigh Furman each added a hit for the Bulldogs. Madison Sears took the loss in the circle.

HUSKIES TOP TROJANS

OLEAN — Emma Edwards gave up one run on one hit, one walk and struck out 15 batters as she led Olean past Southwestern 6-1 in Division 1 West action.

Southwestern (5-5, 4-4) broke up the no-hit bid from Edwards in the sixth inning when Ashlynn Swan singled, which also moved Payton Swartz to third base. After starting the inning by getting hit by a pitch, Swartz stole second, was moved along by Swan and then driven home by Peyton Lillie to give the Trojans their only run of the game.

Southwestern was led on the mound by Arianna Silakowski going all six innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Olean’s offense was led by Alaina Hirliman going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a double. Anna Bates also hit a double for the Huskies (13-1, 9-0).
