The Dunkirk Marauders did not win a single game in the 2022 football season, but in the first season under head coach Edwin Gomez they showed great signs of improvement and earned three victories. The Marauders finished with a 3-4 record in Class B2, taking fourth place in the league and with that five players received First-Team all-star selections in the league.
Senior Michael Hanlon stood out on both sides of the ball for the Marauders, but it was at running back where he earned his spot on the league’s First Team. On 165 carries, Hanlon rushed for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns, with the yardage total as the 11th best in all of Section VI.
A big help to Hanlon’s rushing success was senior Jonathan Ortiz on the offensive line where he also earned a spot on the First Team. Ortiz was a part of a line that amassed 1,395 yards on the ground and in pass protection he helped Dunkirk gain 700 yards through the air.
Of those 700 yards gained through the air, 297 of them were earned by junior wide receiver Jareese Gaines. On just 15 receptions, Gaines reeled in 42% of the Marauders’ receiving yards and six of those receptions finished in the end zone.
On the other side of the ball, fellow Dunkirk junior Paul Trippy III earned a spot on the Class B2 Defensive First Team at defensive back. Trippy made one interception, forced two fumbles and made 30 total tackles.

Joining Trippy on the Defensive First Team is senior Christian Hernandez who led the Marauders in tackles. Hernandez collected 54 total tackles, seven for loss and four sacks, leading Dunkirk in each category.
Dunkirk sophomore Eliel Collazo was named to the Second Team offense, while junior Lauryn McCracken was an honorable mention.
The top three teams in the B2 standings took home all the individual awards in the league.
Lake Shore finished third in the league with Dan Russell being named Coach of the Year, Bryson Renzo earned Offensive Lineman of the Year and the Eagles took home the Team Sportsmanship Award.
Iroquois finished in second place and leading the way was Nate Blair who was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Maryvale posted a perfect league record with Offensive Player of the Year Brayden Tryon and Defensive Lineman of the Year Keenan Banks.
