JCC women’s swim & dive finishes perfect in WNYAC

BATAVIA — The Jamestown Community College women’s swimming and diving team finished a perfect Western New York Athletic Conference schedule at the Genesee Community College WNYAC Meet on Wednesday night.

The women went 3-0 at Genesee CC, compiling an unblemished 9-0 WNYAC record.

The men also had a strong showing, going 2-1 for a second-place finish.

Following are the women’s results:

The 400-yard medley relay team of Ella Fosberg, Lindsey Spitz, Paiden Wittmeyer and Anna Jones won the event with a time of 4:54:35.

Stacey Blackler followed that up in the 1,000-yard freestyle by bringing home a second-place result.

Flipping to 200-yard freestyle, Madison Kramer continued a dominating season, winning by almost 20 seconds. Fosberg earned third place in the event.

In the 50-yard freestyle, it was almost a clean sweep by Jayhawks, with Wittmeyer winning and Shaylynn Owens and Ashlynn Swan coming in third and fourth.

The women did sweep the 400-yard individual medley, with Spitz taking gold, Hayley Dawson silver, and Jones bronze.

Kramer and Owens also found a place on the podium in the 100-yard freestyle, with Kramer taking first by nearly 14 seconds. Owens claimed third.

It was another all-Jayhawks showing at the top of the 500-yard freestyle, with Fosberg edging out Jones for the win.

The domination for the women continued in the 100-yard individual medley as Kramer, Wittmeyer, and Blackler notched first, second, and third.

Finally, in the 200-yard breaststroke, Spitz grabbed the crown, with Blackler coming in second.

In the diving pool, Swan was again on point, taking first in the one-meter dive by a score almost 40 points ahead of second. Owens finished fourth.

“The women’s team had some more tremendous swims last night and wrapped up the WYNAC championship,” said Jamestown CC head coach Todd Conklin. “The girls have been working so hard and really have their focus on capturing a regional championship. The bigger picture is returning to the top and capturing our third national championship. I know they are up for the challenges over the next two months. The coaches look forward to a strong finish.”

The men also found themselves on the leaderboard for many of the events.

Maxim Johnson brought home a second in the 400-yard individual medley. Johnson also won the men’s 100-yard freestyle, with teammates Toby Gifford coming in fourth, Lukas Baer sixth, and Randall Hall ninth. Johnson was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle as well.

In the sprints, Brady Lindstrom was just edged out for the top spot in 50-yard freestyle, with Gifford earning a seventh.

Then, in the 100-yard individual medley, Lindstrom took third while Colton Schuman finished ninth. Schuman was also fourth in the 200-yard backstroke.

Switching to the 200-yard breaststroke, Lindstrom came in second, with Gifford fourth, Rinat Kalimullin sixth and Hall seventh.

The Jayhawks took third in the 200-yard freestyle relay behind the team of Schuman, Hall, Kalimullin, and Baer.

“The men’s team had a great night,” Conklin said. “We are looking forward to the championship season where they all have their focus. We know we are not where we need to be yet, but the hard work they are putting in will give us great results for the end.”

Next for both squads is a trip down Route 60 to Fredonia State on Thursday, Feb. 1.
