The Randolph Cardinals boys basketball team won its first state championship a year ago and graduated several key seniors.

However, the Cardinals did not miss a beat returning to action this year largely due to Drew Hind. The Randolph junior averaged 23.2 points per game, 4.6 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 steals as he led the Cardinals to an undefeated season in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 East action and reclaimed the Section VI Class C title.

For his efforts, Hind was named the CCAA Division 1 East Player of the Year for the third straight season and head coach Kevin Hind was named the league’s Coach of the Year.

Hind was joined on the league’s First Team by junior teammate Griffin Nelson who averaged 5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.3 assists. Randolph senior Roan Kelly represented the undefeated Cardinals on the Second Team.

Frewsburg finished just behind Randolph in the league and was led by senior Gavin Smith scoring 25.7 points per game, 7.1 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 3.1 steals for the Bears.

Falconer finished 6-6 in the league, but managed to claim its first Section VI title since 1982, winning the Section VI Class B2 Championship over Eden 59-47. Driving the bus for the Golden Falcons was sophomore Roger Markham scoring 18 points per game, 4.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3 steals a game.

Falconer junior Mathis Baehr was named a Second Team all-star.

Cassadaga Valley’s Ace Pierce scored 19.3 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and steals to earn a First Team selection and Gowanda senior Quentin Centner led the Panthers in scoring with 22.2 points per game to round out the league’s First Team.

Silver Creek landed two players on the Second Team in senior Ray Cortes and junior Simon White, while Portville sophomore Aiden DeFazio took the final spot on the Second Team.
