Fredonia State’s Noah Wisniewski was named the first Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the 2024-25 season in the State University of New York Athletic Conference.
Wisniewski was a triple-winner in the Blue Devils’ season-opening meet against Pitt-Bradford on Saturday. He won the 50-yard freestyle at 23.32, the 100 freestyle at 52.43 and the 100 breaststroke at 1:05.83.
The honors for the SUNYAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week also went to Fredonia State as Megan Orrange was a double-winner for the Blue Devils on Saturday.
Orrange led the women to victory against Pitt-Bradford claiming wins in the 100 freestyle at 58.68 for a personal best, the 50 freestyle at 26.47 and she also was apart of the 200 medley relay that won with a time of 2:19.01.

Cortland’s late goal in the first half stood as the game winner as the Red Dragons defeated Fredonia State on Wednesday in SUNYAC action.
Cortland (5-0-1 SUNYAC/7-2-4) broke through when Simone Neivel scored in the 41st minute off an assist from Katie Cosenza.
Fredonia State goaltender Abby Szymkowiak had a busy first half, making eight saves. She finished the day with nine stops as the Devils defense limited Cortland’s offensive attack in the second half.
Kristen Spendal made seven saves for the shutout. Cortland held a 21-18 edge in shots on goal.
The Devils (2-4 SUNYAC/7-7-0) will travel to Potsdam on Saturday.
MEN’S SOCCER
CORTLAND — The Fredonia State men’s soccer team dropped a road SUNYAC contest 5-0 at Cortland on Wednesday.
Cortland (4-1-1 SUNYAC / 10-3-3) scored 7:33 into the game and again at the 20-minute mark to take the early 2-0 lead. The third score came 1:05 before the break as the Red Dragons closed the half up 3-0.
The Devils were held to four shots on goal in the shutout.
Cortland tacked on scores in the 70th and 85th minutes. Matt Schultz had three goals.
Jack Phelan played the first 70 minutes, making six saves. Thomas McDonald finished the game, making one save and giving up one goal. Jordan Ott made two saves for the Red Dragons.
Cortland outshot the Devils 34-5.
The Devils (1-5 SUNYAC / 6-8-2) play host to Potsdam on Saturday. It will be Senior Day for the Blue Devils.
VOLLEYBALL
The Fredonia State women’s volleyball team dropped three-straight sets at New Paltz on Saturday 25-18, 25-17, 25-21.
Kylie O’Brien and Maeve Musielak led the offense with eight kills apiece. Molly Cassidy had team bests of 15 assists and two aces.
Defensively, Erin Callahan had four blocks, and Kailea Sullivan had 14 digs.
The loss drops the Devils to 2-2 in the SUNYAC and 9-13 overall.
New Paltz improves to 2-1 in the conference and 9-9 overall.
The Devils play host to Buffalo State on Saturday.
The 2008 volleyball team that made it all the way to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament will be honored at the athletic department’s Hall of Fame induction ceremonies that evening.
