Construction: Good, bad of road work

With the onset of spring and summer comes one more season: construction. Motorists in recent weeks have found the going tough over some of the main thoroughfares.

In Fredonia, the Water Street bridge was closed for maintenance but it was well worth it. Besides making some repairs, the road has been repaved and is a much smoother ride.

On the Route 60 bridge that runs over the state Thruway, work continues there on some upgrades. Smaller projects in many communities — especially pothole patrol — also are underway.

While drivers may bemoan the slow going, they are just as quick to complain when the streets are in dire need of work. There is one thing to remember during this season: give it a brake.
