Snowfall: Right before leaf pickup …

One step forward, two steps back. That is just what it seems happens to local Department of Public Works crews once November comes around.

Almost like clockwork, both the city of Dunkirk and village of Fredonia sent the OBSERVER notices regarding when it would begin leaf removal late last week. Just like that — on Saturday — Mother Nature took notice.

Snows fell — up to 7 inches — in portions of the city and village. It was an orange mix of the white stuff with old leaves.

Temperature will warm, but soggy leaves will prevail for a remainder of days. Even the best of plans …
