The store will now be called Market Basket. New product lines are already on the shelves. Bells customers who purchased the yellow label and National Brands will now find comparable products under Best Yet and Our Value labels. Thirty years ago — 1993 Student of the Week is Gary Krenzer, 17, a senior at Pine Valley Central School. The son of Robert and Patricia Krenzer of 393 Maple Ave., Cherry Creek, he is a skilled athlete on the varsity football, basketball and baseball teams. Gary has qualified for 1st Team All-Star Football and the Academic All-Western New York Football Team. Thirty years ago — 1993 The late Joe Annarella was one of the most successful and best known coaches in Chautauqua County and that’s why he was chosen as one of the four inductees for the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame this year. Mr. Annarella coached six different sports with tremendous success at Cassadaga Valley Central School from 1954 to 1976. Other inductees are Bob Winterburn, Leo Corkery and the late Dan Feather. Thirty years ago — 1993 The first arrests ever for crack cocaine in the Dunkirk community were made on Jan. 13 by the Dunkirk Police Department when a city woman and two male Bronx residents were charged with possession and sale of crack cocaine in Dunkirk. The arrest followed a three-month undercover investigation by the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force. The two men were bringing in at least one ounce of the drug each week from New York City and were finding an open market in this area because it is something new. Thirty years ago — 1993 Chautauqua County Legislator Charles Porpiglia (D-Dunkirk) and county Democratic Committee Chairman Jack Dillenburg of Arkwright have received special invitations for the inauguration of President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore in Washington this week. Porpiglia said he played an active role in the Clinton campaign in Chautauqua County. “I guess they didn’t forget what we did,” Porpiglia said. Thirty years ago — 1993 Work is about halfway complete on a comprehensive construction project at St. Joseph’s Church in Fredonia. According to the Rev. James O’Connor, pastor, the construction is expected to be completed by April 2 and was preceded by a three-year fund drive. The 4400 square foot addition will link the rectory, church and parish center, along with providing a new on-level entrance.
