Man injured after leaving scene of Pomfret rollover

A Fredonia man was injured after fleeing the scene of a rollover accident on Wednesday morning.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a location on Van Buren Road in the town of Pomfret around 7 p.m. The driver, later identified as Garmalier Ortiz-Pagan, 38 of Fredonia, fled the scene prior to deputies arrival.

After deputies conducted an investigation into the circumstances of the accident they learned that Ortiz-Pagan was lost, injured and trapped in a wooded area nearby.

K-9 Drake was soon deployed thereafter to assist in the search. Due to the diligence of dispatchers they were able to narrow the search. K-9 Drake and deputies, after a brief search, were able to locate Ortiz-Pagan and help him to an area where Fredonia Fire Department EMS were able to extract and transport him to the hospital for treatment.

The incident is still being investigated by Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and charges are pending.
