City man sentenced in 2022 home invasion robbery

William Buckley

A Jamestown man has been sentenced to a decade in state prison for his role in a December 2022 home invasion robbery.

William Buckley also will serve five years of post-release supervision, Jason Schmidt, Chautauqua County district attorney, announced this week. He was sentenced Monday in Chautauqua County Court.

Buckley and another person were accused of forcing their way into the home of a Jamestown woman on Dec. 26, 2022. According to the Jamestown Police Department, the pair allegedly assaulted the woman and held her at gunpoint before taking some of her property.

The victim, then 73 years old, was injured in the home invasion described by JPD at the time as a “targeted, horrifying act of violence.”

Schmidt said Buckley was convicted of the top count in the indictment.

“No reductions or offers were made to resolve the case,” the DA said in a statement. “We could not have achieved this end-result without the hard work and dedication of the Jamestown Police, and the resilience and bravery of the victim in this matter. It is because of them that our case was so strong.”

Jamestown Police Chief Timothy Jackson also commented on the sentence: “Due to the swift actions of our patrol officers and detectives, Buckley was apprehended within hours to face the consequences of his cowardice acts. The Jamestown Police Department would like to thank the District Attorney’s Office for again standing up for victims and bringing offenders such as Buckley to justice.”

Jackson noted the teamwork among agencies that has been key in solving recent cases.

“When law enforcement and the public all work together, the result ends positively,” he said. “In this case, everyone came together and it ended in the conviction of a dangerous criminal. The Jamestown Police received assistance from the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office, the public, but most importantly from the victim. This type of collaboration is what society needs more of so that justice can be achieved.”
