Brant couple pleads guilty in cruelty case involving 200+ animals

A Brant couple who own a farm and had more than 200 of their animals seized have pleaded guilty after being arrested late last year on neglect charges. According to Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane, Bonnie L. George, 75, and Donald L. George, 77, pleaded guilty Monday night before Evans Town Court Justice Dennis P. Glascott. CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT - Christopher R. Firkins, 49, of Cherry Creek, was charged June 4 with driving while intoxicated, DWI per se, and speeding. According to officials, at about 11:54 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on Route 83 in the town of Cherry Creek. The operator was identified as Firkins, and further investigation found Firkins allegedly to be driving while intoxicated. JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT - Paul R. Briggs, was charged June 3 with third-degree trespass. According to police, at about 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a Southside address for a reported trespass in progress. Upon arrival, police said, officers located Briggs inside the residence. Officers were advised that the address was condemned by the Jamestown Department of Development. Briggs was placed into custody, and taken to the Jamestown City Jail. Fire destroys structure

Photos by Dan Kohler Crews from numerous departments responded to a structure fire at 6807 Plank Road in Mayville. The fire occurred around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and destroyed the site. Responding departments included: Chautauqua County EMS, Sherman, Panama, Westfield, Chautauqua, Maple Springs, Brocton, Portland and Stockton.

According to officials, at about 4: 51 p.m., the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division received a complaint taking place in the jail.
