Route 87 closing for
bridge work
VILLENOVA — Construction crews will begin replacement of County Bridge 897 on Balcom Cross Road, County Route 87, in the town of Villenova on Thursday. During construction, the road will be closed and a detour will be posted.
Silver Creek participating
in BLOOM
The Silver Creek-Hanover Garden Club is participating in the 2023 BLOOM Front Yard Garden Recognition Program. The purpose of BLOOM is to acknowledge home gardeners who contribute to the curb appeal of our neighborhoods and ENCOURAGE all residents to take part in making our community a more beautiful place.
Participating is easy. Just work in your garden.
Through July 14, members of the Silver Creek Hanover Garden Club will canvass the community looking at flowers, shrubbery, yard tidiness, trimming, decorations, and uniqueness of residents’ front yards. Residents chosen will receive a BLOOM garden recognition sign and a chance to win other gifts!
Bloom is a Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation event.
Gowanda museum set to open
GOWANDA — The Gowanda Area Historical Society museum at 2 Chestnut St. will be open Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m., beginning July 6 and running through Thanksgiving. Research questions may be sent to gowhist@localnet.com.
No brush pick-up in Fredonia
The village of Fredonia will not be having a brush pickup in July due to paving projects. The next brush pickup will be Aug. 7. Residents are reminded they may bring brush to the Village of Fredonia DPW at 176 Eagle St.
Can and bottle drive Saturday
The Blessed Mary Angela Holy Name Society will hold a can and bottle drive on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon at the church of St. Hedwig Parking lot on Roberts Road. This is an easy way to clean up all those bottles and cans from Fourth of July parties.
All the funds raised by the Holy Name Society stay in the parish as this drive will help defray the costs of expensive roof repairs needed at both churches.
Tai Chi class goes to Point
The Dunkirk Seniors Tai Chi class led by Peter Miller will meet at 3 p.m. at the main picnic shelter at Point Gratiot Park on the following two dates: Tuesday, July 11, and Tuesday, Aug. 15. Guests are welcome to attend.
