Dimmer seeks Democratic nod for city judge

James Scott Dimmer, Esq. has announced his candidacy for Dunkirk City Court Judge in the Sept. 12 Democratic Primary Election. “I will provide crucial experience to fairly and independently decide cases and dispense justice. I am the right candidate with the right experience.”

Dimmer has been practicing law for over 22 years. He spent nearly 10 years as an assistant district attorney with the Chautauqua County district attorney’s office under James P. Subjack. He successfully prosecuted thousands of felony and misdemeanor cases in the county and all 26 city, town and village courts. He also served four years with the Cattaraugus County public defender’s office. In his private practice, he currently handles primarily felony and misdemeanor cases.

He is a lifelong resident of Chautauqua County and grew up in Sheridan. His entire family is from Dunkirk and he has been a resident of the city for 12 years. He graduated from Fredonia State University which included internships with Dunkirk City Court under the Hon. August R. Jankowski and the New York State Attorney General’s Office. He received his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1992.

He is currently a member of Chautauqua County Bar Association, having served as past president. He is also a member of the Erie County and Cattaraugus County Bar Associations.

In his spare time, he enjoys the outdoors with his three rescue dogs. He is a member of the Lake Shore Street Rods Association and enjoys driving his vintage cars. He is a parishioner at Blessed Mary Angela Parish.
