Young Adult author Sharon Flake at Fredonia today
Homecoming events at SUNY Fredonia include Young Adult author Sharon Flake with a talk entitled, “The Power of Literature to Give Voice to Young Adults,” today, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m., in McEwen Hall Room 209 at the State University of New York at Fredonia.
A reception will follow Ms. Flake’s talk at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Flake’s books feature African American characters and address issues related to race, class, ability and gender. Her talk on campus will mark the 20th anniversary of her groundbreaking book, “The Skin I’m In,” which won a Coretta Scott King Award, was named a New York Public Library Top Ten Book for the Teen Age and a YALSA Best Book for Young Adults award.
