KIMBALL STAND — No injuries were reported after a trooper with the New York State Police was struck by a sedan.
The crash was reported at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday on Route 60 in the town of Ellicott.
According to the state police, a trooper out of the Fredonia barracks — assigned to a distracted driving detail — was operating an unmarked SUV northbound on Route 60 when he observed a southbound vehicle traveling at about 71 mph in a 55 mph zone.
According to Capt. Eric Balon, the trooper attempted to make a U-turn when he was struck in the driver’s side rear door and quarter panel by a Pontiac sedan, being driven by a Jamestown resident.
The sedan was disabled as a result of the crash.
Volunteer firefighters from Fluvanna assisted with traffic control Tuesday.
