SILVER CREEK — A Silver Creek High School yearly tradition continued on Wednesday morning after a year’s hiatus last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Forty-seven members of the senior class of Silver Creek High School came together to help make the beaches of Silver Creek and surrounding areas a little bit nicer, as part of their Senior Day of Service.
The students separated into different groups, going to St. Columban’s Retirement on the lake, as well as Sunset Bay Beach, the Seneca Nation Beach, and the Old Hideaway Bay Property.
“I personally went to St. Columbans,” said Kristen Foley, the advisor for the trip. “The kids were picking up sticks on the nature trail there. We met one of the residents, which was nice. We got to be outside, and some of the kids got to ride on a golf cart there, which was fun.”
The group that went to Sunset Bay cleaned up the entire spot along the beach up until the break wall, while the group that went to the Seneca Nation Beach did the same in cleaning up the waterfront. The last group at Old Hideaway Bay spent a lot of time cleaning up scraps of metal that had washed up, and whatever else was there.
All in all, the kids had a good day of work, but a fun time nonetheless.

Following the morning cleaning, the students all gathered at Sunset Bay for the annual Class Bash, where they were provided food by Sunset Bay, and were able to go swimming, play cornhole, volleyball, and just enjoy each other’s company as a class.
“We had an amazing time considering the state of the school year,” Foley said. “I think this is just a great time. We have to give Sunset Bay credit too for feeding all the kids.”
Foley added that after the year of not having the clean-up, it was a very welcome re-addition to the senior class’s lineup of activities.
“Last year we obviously didn’t have it,” Foley said. “But it was nice we got to bring it back again this year.”
The cleanup had originally been scheduled for Thursday morning, but was moved to Wednesday in order to accommodate for potential inclement weather.
