Fredonia Grange names 2019 Service Award recipient

Fredonia Grange President Mark Mackey, right, presents Grange Secretary Joseph Kwiatkowski with the 2019 Grange Service Award.

The 2019 Grange Service award was presented to Joseph Kwiatkowski by Mark Mackey, Grange president. Kwiatkowski has served as secretary, barn dance organizer and caller, and community sing-along director. The above activities include members, friends and guests of all ages and are considered family friendly

Mackey noted Kwiatkowski has done an outstanding job as secretary, serving for seven years. His job includes recording and maintaining records of meetings and the business of the Grange. Expert communications and diligent detail are among his skills.

The barn dances are held the first Friday of each month from September to June from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Grange Hall, 58 W. Main St. in Fredonia. Each dance is taught first and then called. A live band provides the music and intermission is held where attendees can share snacks they brought. Caller Kwiatkowski makes dancing easy for even the newest dancer.

Kwiatkowski was instrumental in forming the community sing-alongs. As the event has grown, so has the venue. It all started at the Fredonia Grange, and this year it was in Barker Commons on May 8. His administrative skills compliment his position as director.

“Joe is detail oriented and has great follow through for which the Grange is grateful,” Mackey said. “Congratulate Joseph Kwiatkowski when you see him for a job well done.”
