SILVER CREEK — In a continued effort to improve the village playground, Silver Creek Mayor Jeff Hornburg said that he has looked into the Ralph Wilson Legacy Grant to assist in purchasing new playground equipment.
The Grant application is due on Dec. 3, and should it be approved, the funds would not be received until the spring. The maximum amount of funds that could be gifted from the grant is $25,000.
“When we sat here looking at playground equipment a while back, if you get something for the 2- to 5-year-olds and something for the 6 to 12s, that was going to be about $51,000,” Hornburg said. “But we’ll do our due diligence. We’ll write the grant, send it in, and see what happens.”
As for other activities for kids in Silver Creek, town of Hanover Deputy Supervisor Lou Pelletter mentioned that there has been interest in a cheerleading program, flag football, and basketball, as part of the town’s youth recreation program. Pelletter said he’s discussed things with Forestville and Silver Creek schools in regards to interest for these, but Pelletter is happy to present the opportunity to give kids in Silver Creek something to do.
“I just kind of want to know where we’re going,” Pelletter said. “We all heard the stories at the criminal mischief meeting about how there’s nothing for the kids to do. Here’s the opportunity not only for something to do, but to actually get involved.”
These activities would require a volunteer effort from the parents, and Pelletter encouraged any parents that would like to be involved to get involved.
In other village business, Silver Creek’s on-street winter parking ban is also now in effect, restricting parking on the village streets from 2 to 6 a.m. to accommodate for winter weather.
