Silver Creek aids fire equipment purchase
SILVER CREEK — Village Mayor Jeff Hornburg said the Silver Creek Fire Department should be getting several new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. The supplies were ordered from Churchville Fire Department
“We ordered 20 of the backpacks and 40 bottles to go on them, and related equipment which includes masks and hoses and things like that,” he said. “Through arrangement with the fire company, we put $50,000 down on these and entered into a payment agreement from a company called CLPUSA.net.”
Hornburg said they’ll make one payment of around $38,000 per year for the next five years to cover the cost of the equipment, which has to cover the total cost of $177,000. While that number is somewhat high, Hornburg said the equipment is necessary.
“It’s badly needed,” said Hornburg. “We’re running into a situation where the tanks we have are all at the point where they were certified for use now, but they can’t be refilled.”
Hornburg added that there were 52 EMS calls in the month of May, with an additional 33 fire calls, giving the volunteers a lot to do, with Hornburg voicing his appreciation for their work.
“That’s a pretty good response for our volunteers,” said Hornburg. “I want everyone to know that I appreciate what they do.”
The next meeting of the Silver Creek Village Board will be Monday, July 18 at 7 p.m., with their first scheduled meeting of the month being canceled due to the July 4 holiday.
