SILVER CREEK — After the departure of former Hanover and Silver Creek Code Enforcement Officer Daniel Hogg, the Town of Hanover moved quickly to hire a team of part-time employees to fill the vacancy. Now it appears Silver Creek will do the same.

Richard Vasile, Vincent Gugliuzza, and John Kennedy were recently hired by the town of Hanover as part-time employees were hired after “an unexpected vacancy of the Town of Hanover Code Enforcement Officer.” At a recent Village Board meeting in Silver Creek, Mayor Jeff Hornburg shared his plans for a similar decision.

“We are in the process of working out a shared services agreement between the town (of Hanover) and the village (of Silver Creek) to utilize their code officers,” Hornburg said. “I don’t know if it will be a long-term endeavor or if we will search for a code enforcement officer of our own in the future, but for the time being, so we didn’t leave the village neglected, I thought it best that we move forward.”

Hogg left his roles with Silver Creek and Hanover for a role with Chautauqua County. Hornburg said, “I wish Dan well. I appreciate what he did for us for three years, and I look forward to working with the Town of Hanover as we move forward.”

Also at a recent Village Board meeting, Trustee Sandra Lindstrom revealed the village was awarded a $5,500 grant from the Chautauqua County Partnership for Economic Growth to make improvements to the sidewalks near the school.

Brandyn Griewisch was recently elected as Fire Chief for the upcoming year. The village reported a total of 51 calls in the month of March, including 39 Emergency Medical Services calls.

“As I always do, I commend the members of the fire department and the EMS for what they get done,” Hornburg said.

The Old Main Street brush drop-off is now open, free to village residents only, Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The next mobile food pantry event in the village is scheduled for April 25 at 11 a.m. in the village municipal parking lot. Other future events scheduled in the village include the annual Children’s Fair through the Silver Creek Kiwanis Club will be June 3 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., and the 27th annual Laurel Run/Walk is scheduled for July 15 at 8 a.m., beginning in the village square.
