There’s sticks. And then there’s Setterstix. When it comes to the lollipop, nobody in the United States can make a stick like this village of Cattaraugus company. The concept of the paper lollipop stick was born in the village of Cattaraugus more than 100 years ago by two gentlemen known as the Setter Brothers, who knew there had to be a more inexpensive way to redevelop the old-fashioned wooden lollipop stick. The concept of paper took off immediately and the company remains the only company in America to produce the paper stick. Setterstix produces some 57 million sticks a day.

The 150 boat slips at the Chadwick Bay Marina in Dunkirk were all occupied this summer and half of the additional 200 slips scheduled to open next year have been spoken for. If the company fills up the additional 200 docks, it will result in the marina making a profit for the first time. One factor that could fill up the marina next year us the continuance of low water levels.

The possibility of using the old Fredonia High School building on Chestnut Street as a sheltered workshop for the county chapter of the Association for Retarded Children was discussed at a recent Fredonia School Board meeting. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Rocco Diono noted that officials from the ARC had been meeting with local officials in reference to the closing and vacating of Holy Cross Center on West Lake Road in the town of Dunkirk where the workshop is now located. The building would obviously need renovation, but the school district would not be responsible for the renovation. Apparently, grant money is available for the renovation.

In terms of both headline value and significance, the Apollo 8 flight around the moon was judged No. 1 in the United Press International Survey on the Top 10 news stories in 1968. The result of the annual balloting reflected the opinion of UPI subscribing editors in North America. They were asked to mark two forms, one rating the top 10 in terms of headline value; the other in terms of significance. The assassination of Robert F. Kennedy was the No. 2 story in the headline value. The No. 2 spot on the significance list went to the election of Richard M. Nixon as president.
