Thirty years ago — 1991

The $55 million Dunkirk co-generating plant is dead and Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. (NiMo) and state regulatory companies are to blame, the president of the project’s parent company charged today. The project was to have been located in the North County Industrial Park. The Dunkirk project was one of the few in New York with a signed NiMo contract.

Forty years ago — 1981

Student of theWeek is Linda Gens, 17, of Route 39, Forestville. She is the daughter of Mary Jane Gens and Robert Gens of Walnut Street, Forestville. A senior, Linda is varsity cheerleader and member of the National Honor Society. She served as junior class vice president and performed in the band and choraleers all of her four years at FCS. She is also head majorette. Linda plans to attend SUNY Fredonia to study music.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Seaman Sam Allesi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allesi, 44 Barker St., Fredonia is aboard the Apollo 14 recovery ship USS New Orleans PH-11.
