Thirty years ago — 1992

Leo S. Ensalaco, a Dunkirk barber for nearly 70 years, died this morning at the age of 88. Mr. Ensalaco had owned and operated Leo’s Barbershop in Dunkirk since 1923 and had resided at 324 Eagle St., Dunkirk.

Forty years ago — 1982

Rebecca Barnes, 17, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Barnes of 74 Main St., Silver Creek has been selected Student of the Week at Silver Creek Central School. A National Honor Society member, she was awarded a letter of commendation by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Rebecca has received numerous awards for performance on the piano and bassoon at county and state levels. She plans to attend William Smith College and major in biology.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Mr. and Mrs. James Evarts of West Main Road, Fredonia recently attended the 53rd Farm Bureau Conference held in Chicago. Mr. Evarts is president of the Chautauqua County Farm Bureau.
