Thirty years ago — 1992

Workmen this week got started on the grading which will support the foundation for the $3.25 million addition to the Chautauqua County Jail in Mayville. The addition will increase the capacity of the lockup and make it possible to house more “paying guests” prisoners from other jurisdictions. Work is expected to be completed some time early next year.

Forty years ago — 1982

On their way to the New York State Fair in Syracuse are Chautauqua County tiny tots Miss Majorette Jodi Van Rensselaer and junior Miss Majorette Stephanie Krzyzanowski, both of Silver Creek. They were crowned at the Veterans Parade which took place recently at the Chautauqua County Fair.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Allen English of 115 Swan St., Dunkirk has retired after more than 46 years of service with the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. Until his retirement, he held the oldest seniority date of any active Dunkirk employee.
