Report gets spotlight tonight

Any village resident who is opposed to dissolution or believes the Center for Governmental Research fiscal impact report is flawed needs to attend tonight’s meeting at 7 p.m. in the Forestville High School auditorium.

Better yet, they need to ask questions.

In the draft report obtained by the OBSERVER, on savings alone, dissolution is the right choice for troubled Forestville. “Dissolving … would eliminate a municipality and change the method by which services are delivered,” the draft report done by the Center for Governmental Research states. “It would not substantially change the level of municipal service in the area. The taxpayers in the village would see a reduction in municipal taxes of about 55 percent from about $13.60 per thousand dollars of assessed value to about $6.20 per thousand of assessed value. … This would be about $645 in annual savings for a taxpayer who owns the median-priced home ($93,000).”

All residents complain about high taxes. Forestville property owners, however, have been hit the hardest in recent years due to poor leadership in the last decade.

Dissolution is on the ballot for the village on Nov. 3. With the decreased costs outlined in the study, the proposition should be a no-brainer for voters.

Considering the poor leadership offered by the board in the last five years, you would think it would be a slam dunk.
