WINTER Donations make for a warmer season

If this weekend was any indication, winter has arrived. While many are worrying about potentially high heating and electric bills, others have some simpler, but greater, needs.

Over the weekend, the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County in collaboration with Partners in Kind announced its 2022 Campaign for Warmth in the OBSERVER. Residents across the region are asked to check their closets for gently used winter coats, hats, gloves, and boots.

“United Way has helped to provide a warm coat to more than 750 people since we began this effort in 2018,” said Adam Dolce, executive director of the United Way. “Many people do not think about the importance of a warm winter coat, and this program aims to provide some comfort during our harsh winter season for those who do not have one for any reason.”

Cassadaga Branch Library and the Ripley Public library will also serve as collection points in their respective communities. The United Way office, at 626 Central Ave. in Dunkirk, welcomes donations as well. The agency encourages business owners, schools, labor groups, and community groups to consider collecting coats from their employees and friends. After, they can contact United Way staff at (716) 366-5424 to present their items for the drive.

Winter traditionally lasts too long in Chautauqua County. Keeping neighbors through a donation is a gift for the season.
