Wednesday Travel League

The league held its second Major Event of the season, the “U.S. Open” with its first visit to Maple Ridge Golf Course in Austinburg, Ohio. Robert Calph was the overall winner, posting the low round of 77, and has now won both majors this year. Mike Wolfe was second with 80 and Al Etzel was third with 81. Calph led the front nine with 37, while Wolfe led the back nine with 37. In the B Flight, John Waterman won on a tiebreaker with John Bongiovanni Jr. for his fourth career U.S.Open B Flight title. In the C Flight, Pat Weaver won on a tiebreaker over Ken Kaus. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Dan Kaszuba.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Dave Criscione (Nos. 2, 3), Wolfe (No. 11) and Calph (Nos. 13, 17); B Flight — Butch Mackowiak (No. 5), Gary Haase (No. 6), Bongiovanni (No. 8), Ed Tofil (No. 13) and Bob Thompson (No. 14); C Flight — Weaver (No. 5), Mike Willoughby (No. 7), Dave Franklin (No. 9) and Lenny Leszkowicz (No. 17). Closest to the pin: Dennis Gawronski Sr. (No. 3), Franklin (No. 9), Etzel (No. 12) and Tofil (No. 15). Winners of the Par-3 Contest were: A — Criscione (+2), B — Bongiovanni (+1), C — Kaus (+3).

Top point winners were Franklin (46), Criscione (41), Calph (24), and Bongiovanni and Tofil (22 each). Season points leaders: 1. Calph (221), 2. Tofil (196), 3. Tom Destro (135), 4. Haase (134), 5. Wolfe (93), 6. Criscione (92), 7. Franklin (88), 8. Waterman, Thompson and Etzel (82 each). Milestones hit this week: Both Dave Criscione and Ken Kaus went over 1,500 career points.

This week the league plays Scenic Heights in Wattsburg, PA. The first tee time is at 9:28 a.m. Golfers need to be signed up with John (785-2291) by noon on Monday.

Tri-County Country Club

Girls4Golf League (June 25) — The Tuesday Girls4Golf League at Tri-County Country Club played on June 25 with the low score carded by Pat Hoagland with a 45, followed by Sue Rocque with a 52, Diana Carpus with a 55 and Priscilla Penfold with a 56. Pat Hoagland was the mystery hole winner.

DHS, CMHS, FHS Alumni Golf Tourney Aug. 2

The 10th annual Alumni Tournament is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 2 at Shorewood Country Club in Dunkirk. The event will feature graduates from Dunkirk High School, Cardinal Mindszenty High School and Fredonia High School. The 2019 youth orgainazational recipients include the Dunkirk-Fredonia Little League and girls softball programs. Honorary starters of the event will be Dunkirk Mayor Willie Rosas and Jack Shubert, Shorewood “Pro Emeritus.”

Registration the morning of the event begins at 8:30 a.m., located in the “Grove” next to the Pro-Shop. The attendees will pose for a group photo at 9:54 a.m., then will begin the event in a shotgun start, scramble format, beginning at 10 a.m. There will be a $500 Hole-in-one Contest, sponsored by Mary Asher in memory of Tom Asher.

The cost of the event is $80, which includes golf, cart, coffee, dinner buffet and dessert. There is also a free Sahlen hot dog on the Par 3, Hole No. 6 — the Hole-in-one Contest hole. A cash bar is open at 3 p.m. and dinner will be at 4:30 p.m. Trophy presentation and door prizes, along with a silen auction, will be following dinner.

Gowanda’s Bee Fit Boot Camp registration open

GOWANDA — Get up, get out and get healthy at Bee Fit Boot Camp at Hillis Field on North Water Street in the village this summer. This series of evening outdoor group workouts, facilitated by the Community Education division of the Gowanda Central School District, is designed to fill your Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with a perfect blend of fun and fitness.

Brittney Olszewski will instruct you and fellow participants inspire you while innovative exercises transform you on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. starting July 8 and ending Aug. 21, 2019. (Dates: July 8, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 22, 24, 26, 29, 31; Aug. 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 19, 21.)

Class fee is $5 per session or $65 for all 20 sessions; $50 for 14 sessions or $30 for 7 sessions. Make checks payable to Gowanda Central School. Vineyards Junior Golf Program Tuesdays in July

The Vineyards Junior Golf Program with Greg Catalono will be on Tuesdays in July, beginning July 2, through July 30, with one date on Friday, July 5. The cost is $75 for the five lessons and one tournament date. The time will be 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. If you wish to sign up or have questions, please call 672-7888 and ask for Jason.

Black Knight Hall of Fame golf tourney July 8

Silver Creek is hosting the Black Knight Hall of Fame golf tournament at Tri-County Country Club, in Forestville. The event is scheduled for Monday, July 8, beginning at 11 a.m. The cost is $80 for non-members or $60 for members. To register, contact Sean Helmer at (716) 572-3634.

Fredonia Midget Football registration July 9

On July 9, at the Fredonia baseball complex on 42 Clinton ave from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Fredonia Football Midget League will hold registrations for football and cheerleading. Participants must be 8 years of age by Aug. 1 and no older than 13 years of age. Registration fee is $70 for the first participant and $30 for any participant in the same household thereafter.

Gowanda 16U softball tourney set for July 27

Gowanda Recreation will hold their annual 16U girls fast pitch softball tournament on Saturday, July 27 at Gateway Park. This is a four-team, round tournament with each team guaranteed three games.
