Silver Creek, Fredonia fall in opening games; consolation games today

JAMESTOWN — Alexys Neckers had 14 points and Karlen Honey grabbed 16 rebounds as Clymer beat Silver Creek 50-40 in the first game of the Maple Grove Tip-Off Tournament.
The Pirates (3-1) built a 27-15 lead before the Black Knights’ Malani Eldridge hit a running 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the first half.
Abby Rice led Silver Creek (1-1) with 20 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Jade Bouvier had four assists and five rebounds while Andrea Martinez had three steals.
“We had to focus on Abby Rice. I put Abby White on her tonight and she did an amazing job along with the help she got from her teammates,” Clymer head coach Dave Bodamer said. “Abby Rice is a very tough player who can hit the 3 and drive to the hoop. With all the respect we paid her, she was still able to put up 20 points.”
Abby White had 12 points and six rebounds while Natalie Johnson had three steals for Clymer.

RED DRAGONS ADVANCE
JAMESTOWN — Courtney Martin scored 24 points while Erin Mansfield had 10 points, nine steals and six rebounds as Maple Grove beat Salamanca 59-35 in the Maple Grove Tip-Off Tournament.
Madi Price added 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots for the Red Dragons (1-1), who outscored the Warriors (0-3) 28-10 in the second half.
Jillian Rea and Lezly McComber each had 9 points for Salamanca. Bella Wolfe grabbed 10 rebounds.
Today’s consolation game between Silver Creek and Salamanca will begin at noon with the championship game to follow at 1:30 p.m.

UNITED WAY TOURNAMENT
RAIDERS ROLL
JAMESTOWN — Kylie O’Brien scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Marley Drake added 21 points, including 5 3-pointers, to lead Jamestown to a 73-25 victory over Health Sciences in the first round of the United Way Tip-Off Tournament at McElrath Gymnasium.
The win moves the Red Raiders (1-0) into the title game at 7:30 tonight against Frewsburg (3-0), a 64-26 winner over Fredonia in the other first-round game.
“Their wins have been absolutely dominating,” Jamestown coach Ken Ricker said of the unbeaten Bears. “There’s a good chance they’ll set another school record (tonight) as fast as we want to play opposing them. Jeff (Collver) does a great job. I hope we can play with them.”
The Red Raiders didn’t have any issues last night, jumping out to a 37-2 lead after the first quarter.
Behind O’Brien, Drake and Mickia Freeney (5 points, six steals and seven assists), the Red Raiders’ pressing style was on full display in Ricker’s return as head coach after a 10-year hiatus.
“They’re really trying hard,” Ricker said. “Obviously, it’s a unique way to play, so there’s still a lot of growth to be had, but the girls are having fun and want to have success. It’s great to be back.”
Raegan Powers chipped in 7 points and eight rebounds, and Alyson Canfield added points for Jamestown.
Ward had 15 points — all on 3-pointers — to lead Health Sciences.

FREWSBURG DOWNS FREDONIA
JAMESTOWN — Tyra Clark scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to highlight Frewsburg’s 64-26 victory over Fredonia in the first round of the United Way Tip-Off Tournament at Jamestown High School.
The Bears (3-0) led 23-2 after the first quarter, 37-2 midway through the second and 49-12 at the break. In the first half, Frewsburg shot 22 of 41 from the field.
Teghan Trocki chipped in 14 points and three assists; Ava Jimerson had 13 points, eight rebounds and five steals; and Taytum Jimerson had 6 points and seven steals.
The Hillbillies, who will meet Health Sciences in the consolation game at 6 tonight, were led by Ashlynn Delcamp with 8 points and Abbi Wray with 5.

FALCONER — Ava Fenton and Grace Lundmark combined for 23 points in the first half and Falconer beat nonleague Ellicottville 46-31.
Fenton hit a 3-pointer and seven free throws while Lundmark added 13 of her game-high 18 points as the Golden Falcons built a 33-19 halftime advantage.
Fenton finished with 10 points, seven assists and five rebounds; Lundmark had 10 rebounds; Dani Krenzer had six steals; Kayla Jo Lynn had seven rebounds; and Tess Spangenburg had six rebounds for Falconer (3-0).
Emilee Ruiz led Ellicottville (1-3) with 12 points, Harley Ficek had five rebounds, Ryah Quinn had four rebounds, Mandy Hurlburt had three steals and Dalayla Alexander had two assists.

T’BIRDS FALL TO ERIE
FORT LeBOEUF, Pa. — Erie jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back en route to a 53-26 defeat of Chautauqua Lake at the Fort LeBoeuf Tournament on Friday.
Lily Woodis led the Thunderbirds with 12 points, six rebounds, six steals and three blocked shots. Erma Wolcott added 6 points and six rebounds.
PANTHERS TOP NORTH COLLINS
FRANKLINVILLE — Megan Jackson had 18 points, Sofia Bentley had 17 points and Olivia Frank grabbed 10 rebounds as Franklinville beat North Collins 58-26.
The Panthers (2-0) led by just six at halftime before a 33-7 second half.
The Eagles fell to 1-1 overall.
