Cardinals’ Adams is East MVP

Gowanda’s Luther, Gernatt are First Team

Randolph ran away with the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association East Division volleyball crown this fall.

Senior Eve Adams was a big reason why.

Now she’s the league’s Most Valuable Player.

Adams led all girls whose stats were reported to the Section VI website with 417 kills to go along with 180 digs, 76 aces and four blocks as the Cardinals went 14-0 in the division and 19-3 overall this season en route to a Section VI Class C2 title. Randolph then lost to eventual Class C state champion Portville in the sectional crossover.

Adams was joined on the league’s First Team by freshman teammate Aliza Hind and junior teammate Donnilynn Sheldon. Hind registered 617 assists, 104 digs and 50 aces, while Sheldon had 138 kills, 40 digs, 32 aces and 12 blocks.

Second-place Gowanda had two players make the First Team. Senior Ella Luther had 459 digs and 30 aces, while junior Jillian Gernatt had 526 assists, 93 digs and 38 aces.

Third-place Cattaraugus-Little Valley was represented on the First Team by junior Kadie Benzel and freshman Carly Preston.

Fourth-place Ellicottville had junior Natalee Leiper and senior Dalayla Alexander named to the First Team. Leiper accumulated 194 kills, 178 digs and 41 aces, while Alexander had 354 digs, 54 aces and 36 kills.

Fifth-place Silver Creek was represented on the First Team by senior Lucille Jimerson, who had 76 blocks, 74 kills, 42 aces, 20 digs and 13 assists.

Senior Cate Ayers represented seventh-place North Collins on the First Team after picking up 80 assists, 36 kills and 19 aces.

Eighth-place Salamanca had senior Lezly McComber on the First Team after tallying 117 kills, 49 digs, 47 blocks, 33 aces and 20 assists.

The Second Team was made up of Pine Valley junior Danica Farnham, Ellicottville senior Cora Norton, Gowanda junior Holland Browning, Ellicottville sophomore Ande Northrup, Pine Valley senior Vivien Libby, Gowanda senior Aubrie Heron, Randolph senior Allie Conley, Ellicottville junior Hayden Andera, Silver Creek junior Gracie Williams, Ellicottville freshman Riley Whitmer and Salamanca senior Karina Crouse.

Silver Creek won the Team Sportsmanship Award with Gianna Grabias the Black Knights’ Individual Sportsmanship Award winner. Other individuals honored were: Ellicottville’s Gracie Privitera, Luther, Salamanca’s Aubrey Domres, Cattaraugus-Little Valley’s Brynn Gabel, Pine Valley’s Madilynn Robertson, North Collins’ Zoe Kreinheder and Randolph’s Avery Morrison.
