Hillbillies edge Lake Shore; Ebersole hits 1K points for NC

ANGOLA — Fredonia led 25-13 at halftime and then held on for a 44-41 nonleague boys basketball victory Wednesday evening at Lake Shore.

Ashton Putney hit a free throw in the final seconds before the Hillbillies (3-2) survived a desperation 3-point attempt by the Eagles.

Putney led Fredonia with 12 points, while Davion White added 9 and RJ Koopman had 8.

“I told the guys, it wasn’t pretty, but guys stepped up,” Fredonia head coach Nick Betrando said. “For the second straight game, even though our offense has struggled at times, defensively we’ve only given up 47 to Harbor Creek in regulation and 41 tonight.”

The Hillbillies will honor the 30th anniversary of the 1993-94 boys team that won the Class B Far West Regional and appeared in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association final four Friday between their jayvee and varsity games against Buffalo Arts.
