Arrest made in Sinclairville July 23 arson

SINCLAIRVILLE – An arrest has been made following an arson investigation. On July 23 local fire departments, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Investigation Team responded to a fully involved residential fire located at 38 East Ave. Sinclairville. Preliminary findings suggested the fire was suspicious in nature. An investigation was conducted and allegedly found that Vicki L Rumsey, 53, of Sinclairville, intentionally set fire to the residence causing the house to sustain heavy damage. ELLICOTT POLICE - John K. Larsen, 66, of Jamestown was charged with second-degree criminal contempt, second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child on July 29. Ellicott police responded to a domestic disturbance where it is alleged Larsen harassed the victim resulting in a violation of an active order of protection. MAN CHARGED AFTER DIGGING UP TIME CAPSULE GERRY --- Deputies were notified of a man digging up the Town of Gerry's time capsule without permission. Deputies on scene found that 69-year-old Dennis R Torrey of Jamestown had unlawfully dug up the time capsule damaging the concrete that encased it. Torrey was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and was released with an appearance ticket with orders to appear in the Town of Gerry Court at a later date. CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE – SHERIDAN – Gary A. Lang, 56, of Deer Street, Dunkirk was charged Tuesday with petit larceny. Deputies said they received a complaint of a prowler at a residence on Rt. 20 in the town of Sheridan around 1:30 a.m. Further investigation into this complaint by the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division led to Lang being identified via security footage from this residence looking in the windows.
