A Jamestown man is facing federal child pornography charges. U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Monday that Connor J. Higgs, 20, of Jamestown, was charged by criminal complaint with possession and distribution of child pornography, which carry a mandatory minimum penalty of five years, and a maximum of 20 years. JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT - Charles M. Apperson, 25, of Jamestown, was charged May 3 with second-degree assault, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. According to police, at about 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a southside address for a complaint of a person with a weapon. Through investigation, police said, it was discovered that Apperson allegedly was trying to give alcohol to juveniles in the area, and he was confronted by an adult male, and asked to stop. JAMESTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT — Devin M. Berg, 40, was charged May 1 with two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, third-degree assault, and criminal obstruction of breathing/blood flow. According to police, at about 9:47 a.m., officers responded to a westside address for a reported domestic incident. According to officials, at about 8:08 p.m., deputies responded to a business in the town of Ripley for a report of a property damage accident between two semi-trucks. A 71-year-old Kennedy man is facing child pornography charges. In October, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office initiated an investigation into the possession and promotion of child pornography in the town of Poland. Through a lengthy investigation, investigators identified Steven K. Smith as the person allegedly responsible for these crimes. On Thursday, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Smith’s Kennedy residence. A large quantity of Smith’s devices were seized and will later be forensically analyzed.
