Villenova Grange plans

pancake brunch today

The Villenova Grange will hold a pancake brunch today 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Balcom Corners, 438 Route 83 (and 322), South Dayton. The event is all you can eat. The cost is $8 large, $7 small.

Enjoy a chicken

barbecue in January!

Silver Creek Kiwanis Club is hosting a Chiavetta’s chicken barbecue on Sunday, Jan. 6 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Silver Creek Village Square. It is drive-up/ take-out only. Dinners are $10 each and consist of half chicken, roll, salad and potato salad. All proceeds go to Silver Creek Kiwanis to help local kids. Pre-sale tickets are available by calling/texting Kelly at 698-2934.

Silver Creek Kiwanis is a local service organization made up of citizens who enjoy working on projects to support the youth in Hanover. Silver Creek Kiwanis put on annually an Easter Egg Hunt, Children’s Fair, Halloween Costume Party and Christmas in the Park to entertain and engage the kids. Silver Creek Kiwanis also provides school supplies to Forestville and Silver Creek Schools for the kids who need them and provides toys to eligible families for their kids at Christmas time. Education to meet Tuesday

The Fredonia Board of Education will hold a regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the high school library.

Evans Garden Club

to meet Tuesday

The Evans Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8. The meeting will be held at the Angola Library, 34 N. Main St. Angola. Danielle Pecoraro, owner of Wild Birds Unlimited will give a presentation about local birds and birdhouses. She is very knowledgeable about wildlife and nature. All are invited to attend.

Son’s of American Legion Squad 59 set to meet Tuesday

The Son’s of American Legion Squad 59 will be holding their monthly meeting Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. at Post 59, 156 E. Main St., Fredonia.

Pat Mleczko, Clinic Director of the Dunkirk VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic will be speaking to the group about the many services the VA provides and specifically Women’s Health Services offered at the VA of Western New York Healthcare System.

All SAL are encouraged to attend the meetings, which are held on the second Tuesday of every month.

Brocton to interview board of education candidates

The Brocton Central School Board of Education will conduct a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose of conducting interviews with prospective candidates to fill the unexpired board member seat, which was vacated by Thomas DeJoe. The board will go into executive session for these interviews.

Community Sing-Along planned for Jan. 9

A Community Sing-Along will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the Fredonia Grange No. 1, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia. Join in a good old campfire sing-along in an indoor setting. All voices are welcome; the event is free for all. For details, call Joe at 679-8426.

The Chautauqua Regional Youth Symphony application deadline is Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at11:59 p.m. There are openings in beginning, intermediate, and advanced youth orchestras that rehearse Friday afternoons (for beginners) and Saturdays at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Lakewood. Preschool Storytime at Ahira Hall Memorial Library Tuesday

Preschool Storytime with Mrs. Westin and Mrs. Raymond will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the Ahira Hall Memorial Library, 37 W. Main St., Brocton. This program is designed for children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years old. Read stories, make a craft and sing songs about winter.

The Dunkirk Citizens Advisory Board monthly meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room on the second floor.

Lakeshore Humane Society holds weekly Open Hours

The Lakeshore Humane Society will hold Open Hours at its Adoption Center Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. Open Hours will be held each Wednesday evening to give the public a consistent mid-week opportunity to meet the cats and dogs in need of caring homes, as well as ask questions and see the facility. The center is located at 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk.

If unable to come on Wednesday, call 672-1991 to arrange an appointment to see the dogs and cats awaiting adoption, or come to the LHS Adoption Day on Jan. 19. (One must be 21 years of age or older to adopt a pet).

While at the LHS Adoption Center, check out the “Cat’s Meow” Boutique, where one can find pet-related gift items, while supporting the Lakeshore Humane Society!
