Brocton School Board to meet Wednesday

The Brocton Central School Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in board conference room 189.

Northern Chautauqua Quilting Companions to meet Oct. 22

The October meeting will be held Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at Harvest Chapel, 39 Matteson St., Fredonia.

This month’s program: Waynna Kershner’s first exposure to quilts occurred many years ago, when her husband gifted her with two quilts he found at an antique shop for her birthday. She took an immediate liking to the well-loved and well-used quilts.

She has a HQ Fusion® with Pro-Stitcher and Art and Stitch software, and has been quilting professionally since 2011. Waynna’s passion for quilting has led her to teach quilt-making classes at a local quilt shop, and to help quilters with their projects and quilting aspirations. She enjoys working with machine quilters of all skill levels. She loves to build confidence in quilters, using the power of the Pro-Stitcher program to put the finishing touch on their works of art.

We are very fortunate to have Kershner come to NCQC. She travels around the country teaching how to use the longarm. She will explain the techniques that she recommends when sending out a quilt to be long armed, different choices in threads and some samples of quilts that she has quilted.

Jim D’Aloisis to speak on climate change

Jim D’Aloisio will speak on “Responding to Climate Change: Reality, Action and Hope.” Jim D’Aloisio is among the 97% of active publishing climate scientists who agree that humans are causing global warming and we need to act now. Jim is a structural engineer and expert on sustainable design. The event is a SUNY Fredonia Convocation Series event and will take place Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. in the Kelly Auditorium, room 105 in the Science Center.
