9/11 ceremony planned in Dunkirk

The Dunkirk Fire Department and The Dunkirk Professional Firefighters are holding its annual 9/11 Ceremony. The ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. Sunday at Fire Headquarters, 311 Eagle St. The ceremony is open to the public.

St. John’s United Church of Christ schedules dinner

St. John’s United Church of Christ at 733 Central Ave. will resume a series of dinners with a ham and scalloped potatoes dinner on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The meal is $13 per dinner and tickets are needed before Friday. Vietnam Veterans to meet Sunday

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 459 will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday at VFW Post 1017 on Deer Street, Dunkirk. Members are asked to attend.

Blood drive today in Fredonia

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Christ Community Church, 219 Berry Road. To donate blood, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org, call 800-733-2767 or enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Fredonia plans brush pickup

The village of Fredonia will be conducting its final brush collection of the season. Collection will begin Monday at 7 a.m. Collection will continue until every village street has been completed. Bags and brush are collected separately by different crews. All items for collection must be at the curb no later than 7 a.m. Monday morning. In no case, will there be repeat collection of areas completed. Leaf pickup will begin in October.

All yard waste must be bagged or in barrels. The village encourages biodegradable bags or barrels and all limbs and brush must be tied with twine.

Limbs and brush must be cut no longer than 4 feet in length with bundles being no larger than 18 inches in diameter. Bundles and bags are limited to 65 pounds in weight. There is no collection of loose material.

Residents are reminded that they can bring yard waste to 176 Eagle St. No bags or containers shall be left behind.

Steps To Serenity meets Thursdays
