An accident at the north county transfer station closed the facility early Thursday.

Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location on Webster Road around 11:30 a.m. after a 79-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and had fallen into the garbage pit. Members of the Fredonia Fire Department were able to get the male out of the pit and transported him to ECMC with injuries to his legs.

County officials indicated the transfer station would be open for regular hours Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
