Water session to have station format

Fredonia’s July 9 water project information session will have a signboard station format.

“Stations will be positioned around the venue with posterboards sharing information on various aspects of the project,” according to an informational flyer released early Monday by the village government.

Fredonia is attempting to connect with the North County Water District, with eyes on decommissioning the village’s own treatment plant and reservoir.

The information session is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday for a former church at 10410 Chestnut Road, which the town of Pomfret recently purchased to convert into a new town hall.

The session is the brainchild of Fredonia Trustee Paul Wandel, who originally envisioned its site as Fredonia High School. However, Pomfret Town Supervisor Dan Pacos told town board members last week that the Fredonia school district never responded to inquiries about holding it there. So Pacos, who is also chairman of the North County Water District board, offered the new town hall as a site.

The information flyer notes that “Representatives from LaBella Engineering, the village of Fredonia, and the Chautauqua County Health Department will be available to discuss the project and answer concerns.”

LaBella has worked with the village on its water issues for years and is heading up the project to connect with the county water district. The county health department, concerned about allegedly unsafe conditions at the village reservoir and treatment plant, advocates the project.

However, “Save Our Reservoir” — the group of Fredonians stridently against shutting down the village’s own water production infrastructure — alleges county officials want the project because it would help shore up the North County Water District’s finances.

Starting at $4.00/week.
