Thirty years ago — 1991
Robert Booth, chairman of the art department at Fredonia State, along with three of this students – James Austin, John Tooley and Mike Jakubowski – recently completed the restoration of the “Mark Fountains” in Barker Common. Damaged as the result of a prank nearly a year ago, the fountains have been restored to the original look when they were first placed in the common in 1900, a donation of Charles L. Mark in honor of his father, James Mark.
Forty years ago — 1981
From the Reporter’s Notebook — This week’s “TV Guide” has a glowing article on Buffalo by Melvin Durslag entitled, “No Buffalo To Kick Around Anymore.” Durslag writes, “In contrast to its coldly forbidding image, Buffalo is now presenting itself as a dynamic – even beautiful – city. He also notes, “A local brewer has even come up with “Talking Proud Beer.” The “local brewer” is, of course, the Fred Koch Brewing Co. of Dunkirk.
Fifty years ago — 1971
Miss Joann A. Charewicz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Charewicz, Route 39, Forestville has been awarded a scholarship form the University of Kansas to study at the University of Adam Mickiewicz at Poznan, Poland.
